The FishSpey Website Pilot Project aims to establish an internet service to promote and facilitate the marketing, availability and awareness of all recreational rod fishing and other water sport tourism in the Spey catchment by providing:

1. Details of available fishing for salmon, sea trout, brown and rainbow trout and pike;
2. Contact details and prices for fishing;
3. On-line booking service;
4. Information on river heights, fishery rules and regulations, accommodation, travel;
5. Advertising site for accommodation and fishing tackle shops;
6. Advertising for other water-based recreation, including paddling and sailing;
7. Improved coordination of angling and other water-based recreation.

The project will begin by establishing a customer base for fisheries in 2005. In 2006 the service will be extended and adapted for water sports businesses.

The Spey Fisheries group have for some time been considering this package; the cost of the franchise fee always being a barrier to participation. However, the excellent results on other rivers i.e. the Tweed, have persuaded them that the proposal is an opportunity that they cannot afford to miss. It is hoped that the initial set up costs will be quickly re-couped but also that the visible success will attract other fisheries to become involved and to therefore help to offset this substantial cost. The fee has been reduced by £5,000 from the original amount.

Taking into account the delay in putting the system in place the hope is to run the scheme on a trail basis from end 2005 through to end 2007.
