| Audit of the Historic Environment of the Cairngorms National Park APPLICANT: Cairngorms National Park Authority (Ref: LEA141) | |
| The purpose of the audit is to provide an evidence based overview of the historic environment in the Cairngorms National Park that will inform policy development, other CNPA strategies and actions and further develop the work already undertaken as part of the State of the Park Report. The audit will identify and assess the presence/absence, nature, type, extent, character, condition and distribution of the historic environment, along with its special qualities and significance. Any opportunities or threats to its well being, as well as its role and potential in the economic and social development of the area’s communities, education, and interpretation and visitor experience will also be examined. a. Collate and assess the existing data relating to the Park’s historic environment and identify any gaps and opportunities. This will include an assessment of the quality of the data available. b. Provide an analysis and overview of the historic environment of the Park by period, site or landscape type, location, significance and threat. This analysis will also include an assessment of the historic environment at a local regional and national level. It will identify what is distinctive, special, common, important and significant and where and why. c. Assess the current condition, and usage of the historic environment, identify any threats and risks to its well being and propose measures to address these. The usage and threats must be quantified, and evidence based. d. Identify the organisations, both private and public sector, and voluntary and community based organisations which have a role in relation to the Historic Environment of the Park. Quantify the resources these organisations invest within the park area, and what these resources are allocated to. e. Identify the current and potential role of the historic environment in lifelong learning, interpretation and visitor experience. f. Develop recommendations and an action plan to implement the findings of the audit. This will include an assessment of the role the National Park should play in storing or accessing historic environment data, and will identify and address any issues relating to the maintenance of such data. The recommendations should also look at the role the Park has to play in the Historic Environment and assess the best way forward for the Park to access the specialist advice required to manage and promote the historic environment. | |
