| The Group/Partnership (SMO/GCU/HC) is organising and staging a major academic conference on Heritage and the Environment, to be held at Sabhal Mòr Ostaig and at the Highland Folk Museum in Newtonmore from 19 - 23 June, 2007. [See below for brief information on partners] The event is planned from Tuesday 19th June to Friday 22nd June, with a further informal day (Saturday 23rd June) for field excursions within Skye and the surrounding area. The all day tour to the Highland Folk Museum in Newtonmore on Thursday 21st June, following preparatory work on day one, includes guided tours to the remains of the township of Raitts and the reconstructed township at the Museum site. Evening entertainment will be provided by the local “waulking”group. [A draft programme for the conference is enclosed with the application] Exhibits from the Highland Folk Museum (Kingussie site) will be on display at the Newtonmore site for a short period [May/June 07]. Delegates will have the opportunity to undertake a full-day local excursion to either: *Knoydart;Canna; Raasay; and Trotternish peninsula. Half-day excursions include *Elgol/Torrin and Leitir Fura - cleared village in Sleat. [* John Muir Trust properties] Conference papers are to be published and will form the content for a double issue of the “International Journal of Heritage Studies”. The published proceedings will provide important material for education and public policy making. |
