Aviemore StreetLink and Midnight Bothy Project (LEA 029) APPLICANT: Concrete Wheels Youth Development Group
The Project is to appoint a full-time youth worker and 8 part-time workers to work with young people in Aviemore to address their social needs and broaden their horizons.

The aims and objectives of the Project are to undertake effective youth work and facilitate creative and developmental activities which will:

· build self esteem and self confidence,
· develop the ability to manage personal and social relationships,
· increase learning opportunities and develop new skills,
· build the capacity of young people to considerrisk taking behaviour and reduce the anti-social behaviour caused by their involvement with drugs and alcohol misuse,
· promote active citizenship and enable them to participate in the decision-making processes that affect their lives,
· raise their awareness of the need for the natural and cultural resources of the area they live in to be protected for future generations,
· help them to see how the protection of the environment need not compromise their needs for jobs, and
· assist them to develop a ‘world view’ which widens horizons and invites social commitment

The aim is also to challenge young people and encourage them to set goals. To help them to recognise the value of growing up in place like Aviemore with the benefits of living in a National Park whilst at the same time raising their awareness of the opportunities that are available for them ‘worldwide’. Also to give them skills and confidence to compete in the job market.

The Project base is in Aviemore Youth Club building.

The project was approved on the 29th August 2003.
The total cost of the project is £93,300 with a contribution of 21% from Cairngorms LEADER+.
