Aviemore Walking Festival (Ref: LEA 045) APPLICANT: Aviemore Business Association

With the success of the inaugural festival in 2003, it is essential to capitalise on the success and to continue to develop the event. It is anticipated that within three years the festival will have become sufficiently established in the national walking festivals calendar to be self-sustaining.

To allow this consolidation we are looking for public sector funding, on a decreasing basis over the next 3 years. The event will still be based in mid May to attract residential hotel business at a quiet time of the year and we will continue to work with the existing public and private sector ranger services. In 2004 as a result of customer feedback we will be including a higher level of more challenging walks including the five highest peaks in Scotland. We are also intending to run a walk in stages over the Speyside Way.
The project was approved on the 11th December 2003.
The total cost of this project is £21,650 with a contribution of 23.5% from Cairngorms LEADER+
