Accessible archive of heritage sites in Abernethy (Ref: LEA052) APPLICANT: Explore Abernethy
We would like to develop a heritage project that will research, record and publish, via the Internet and leaflets, an archive of buildings and historical sites in the Nethy Bridge area. The archive would be accessed through the Nethy Bridge community website using a search facility, and would be designed as an evolving resource, so that new information can easily be recorded and uploaded onto the site. The project will involve:

a) commissioning someone to:
· research existing resources/information available, e.g. contacting HC archive service and local libraries, museums, similar projects elsewhere;
· identify and visit an agreed number of sites / buildings in Nethy Bridge of significant historical interest, and photograph;
· contact / interview landowners, occupiers (current and former) and others to collate information on previous occupiers, dates of occupancy, use of building, old photographs, maps;
· document and archive information in standard format for uploading onto website (in liaison with site webmaster).

b) purchasing equipment including Information Technology to:
· support the research and development of the on-line archive
· enable the Explore Abernethy ranger to add to the archive on an on-going basis
· allow the ranger to use and present the findings in future talks/events programme
· allow the public to access the archive in the Explore Abernethy centre

c) producing a series of leaflets interpreting some of the key sites and features that will
· complement existing interpretation
· be available locally

This project was approved on the 20th February 2004.
The Total Cost of this project is £5,642 with a contribution of 45% from Cairngorms LEADER+.
