Cairngorms National Park Community Events Grant Scheme (Ref: LEA 054) APPLICANT: Cairngorms National Park Authority
The CNPA proposes to operate a grant scheme to assist and encourage communities in the National Park to undertake activities and events to mark their inclusion in the National Park, and through this, to deepen their involvement and commitment to the aims of the National Park. To that end, a grant of between £500 and £3,000 will be available for events and activities related to 4 aims of the Park, and in particular the natural or cultural environment of the National Park in the area in which the applicant community is situated. It is also important that the impact of the event or activity should continue after it has taken place, and this will be a criterion in assessing applications.

As a general guide, the Scheme is intended to encourage communities to undertake projects which meet four key criteria:
1. Limited duration and completed within the timescale of the Scheme.
2. Involve a number of people as organisers or participants. A suggested minimum is 20 people.
3. Relate to some aspect of the National Park and its aims.
4. Have some form of continuing impact or result after the event has taken place.

While the Scheme is not intended to be prescriptive, the following types of event or activity are examples of the type of project that would fall within the aims of the Scheme:
· A performance, play or concert relating to the National Park and its aims.
· Collaborative creation of a work of art, or book on the history or traditions of a community.
· A sporting event or competition, particularly one that had an “across the Park” aspect, or which used the recreational resources of the Park.
· A group activity relating to the natural or cultural environment, such as habitat improvement, path works, undertaking a census of wildlife, or restoration of a historic or cultural site.
An event or activity that is a continuation of one that has occurred previously or which is one of an ongoing series will not be eligible for grant.
This project was approved on the 27 February 2004.
The Total Cost of this project is £100,000 with a contribution of 45% from Cairngorms LEADER+
