Butterflies and Moths in the Cairngorms mean Business (Ref: LEA 058) APPPLICANT: Butterfly Conservation Scotland
The Cairngorms are home to some of Scotland’s most beautiful, and threatened, butterflies and moths. Many local people and visitors to the area are unaware of this wonderful natural resource. Through this project we aim to:

· increase awareness of butterflies and moths among local communities
· encourage local volunteers to play a part in their conservation and promotion
· give tourists and local people an opportunity to see and enjoy this aspect of Scotland’s wildlife.

This project is proposed as one half of a LEADER+ Action 2 project. A parallel application is being submitted to Lomond and Rural Stirling LEADER+. If both applications are successful it is intended that training events, volunteer support and networking, publicity information and the encouragement of ‘butterfly and wildlife related tourism, especially in Scotland’s two new National Parks, be promoted in both Leader+ areas through this project.

This project was approved on 29th April 2004.
The Total Cost of this project is £40,914 with a contribution on 45% from LEADER+
